via • linkSimply put, Another Earth is one of the movies you feel unqualified to write about after watching twice in a week. So I’ll just write the few things I could muster out of this indie gem.
- It’s a sci-fi. An emotional thriller. An introspective drama.
- It’s amazing what they do with a small budget.
- It’s got compelling acting with simple beauty.
- I don’t mean to sound sexist, but main character “Rhoda” is very intriguing and she doesn’t say much. Why can’t more women people be like that?
- It’s about forgiveness, reflection and ambition.
- It has original characters with complex motives.
- It’s about the universe, yet it’s very human.
- It’s very detailed. Notice the camera work, color and grain of certain scenes. (Director Mike Cahill)
- It’s from two people who actually know what the hell they’re doing and doing a lot of it. Brit Marling - wrote, acted and produced. Mike Cahill - wrote, directed and served as cinematographer.
- And finally, it has a brilliant ending that I won’t spoil…even if he took me a while to process.
